DOCUMENTS REQUIRED BY THE HELLENIC NATIONAL AND ACADEMIC RECOGNITION AND INFORMATION CENTRE (DOATAP-NARIC) FOR THE RECOGNITION OF NON-GREEK ΒΑSIC (UNDERGRADUATE) ACADEMIC DEGREES
ΔΟΑΤΑΠ means: THE HELLENIC NATIONAL AND ACADEMIC RECOGNITION AND INFORMATION CENTRE (NARIC)
Τhere is an intense interest and frequent questions coming from our clients regarding the documents and the procedure for the recognition of foreign qualifications (degrees) by the NARIC. In this article, as well as in the one that followw, we will thoroughly analyse the relevant procedure, including a list of the necessary supporting documents. Of course, for more detailed information and individual questions, our clients can contact our office either directly or electronically through our website and our email address info@e-metafrasis.grWe will start off today with the first part of the presentation which regards the the supporting documents and the procedure for the recognition of the basic qualification (undergraduate degree), whilst in the article that will follow, we will refer to the recognition of graduate and doctoral qualifications.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED BY THE HELLENIC NATIONAL AND ACADEMIC RECOGNITION AND INFORMATION CENTRE (DOATAP-NARIC) FOR THE RECOGNITION OF NON-GREEK ΒΑSIC (UNDERGRADUATE) ACADEMIC DEGREES
For the recognition of graduate degrees, the following documents are to be submitted:
- An application (is provided by the Secretariat or can be downloaded from our website) If it is submitted by another person or sent by post, the authenticity of the signature of the person concerned must be verified by a Police Station / Citizens’ Assistance Centre (KEP) / Greek Consular Post.
- A fee of 230,40€ (225€ + 2% stamp tax + 20% tax for OGA – Agricultural Insurance Organisation) (National Gazette 3165/B/30-12-2011), for each degree that is to be assessed. The amount is to be deposited only at the Bank of Greece (NARIC Account No. 26072595). The deposit receipt should mention that the depositor is the citizen submitting the application for recognition).
- Tαυτότητα ή διαβατήριο σε ευκρινές φωτοαντίγραφο (στην περίπτωση ταυτότητας ή διαβατηρίου της αλλοδαπής, ευκρινές φωτοαντίγραφο από το αντίγραφο που έχει επικυρωθεί από δικηγόρο της ημεδαπής)
- A Solemn Declaration του άρθρου 8 του Ν. 1599/86 (συντάσσεται και σε απλό χαρτί, σύμφωνα με την υπ’ αριθμ. 1068985/900 Τ & Φ/12-7-01 Υπουργική Απόφαση ΦΕΚ 950 τ. Β΄) η οποία υπογράφεται από τον ενδιαφερόμενο κατά την κατάθεση. In case it is submitted by another person or sent by post, the authenticity of the signature of the person concerned must be verified by a Police Station / Citizens’ Assistance Centre (KEP) / Greek Consular Post.
The solemn declaration shall declare that:
The certificates that are being submitted are genuine
I have completed my studies as regards the degree for which I am applying for recognition
Νo other application for recognition of the degree in question has been submitted to the NARIC or to any other public authority and
The place where courses or seminars, assignments (if applicable) and examinations, both oral and written were carried out, was ............ (indicate the place of study. If some part of the syllabus took place in Greece, this is to be indicated. The city must also be mentioned)
- A Consent Form which is filled in and signed only by the applicant in two copies for each of the institutions where he/she studied. With this form, the NARIC is authorised to ask the Institution(s) for clarifications/supplementary information regarding the applicant’s degree(s).
- High school diploma of a domestic high school or sixth grade high school or other equivalent school, in a clear photocopy of the original. If secondary education studies have been carried out abroad (excluding the EU and EFTA countries, the former USSR, Australia, USA and Canada), the final degree of this course of study (original or a legally certified photocopy by a Greek authority) must be submitted, accompanied by a certificate from a competent authority of the country of its issue (e.g. the Cultural Attaché of the respective Embassy to Greece) stating that this degree entitles its holder admission to an institution of higher education in the country of origin. An official translation of the diploma (and the certificate) must also be submitted, unless it is in Greek, English or French.
- The degree for which recognition is sought, <strongcertified for authenticity of signatures in accordance with the Hague Convention (APOSTILLE stamp)</strong. Either the original degree or a legally certified copy with an official translation is to be submitted, unless it is in Greek, English or French, in which case no translation is required. For countries that have not ratified the Convention or if our country has raised an objection, and only for these countries, the authenticity of the document is issued by the local Greek Consular Posts. The authenticity of the documents is not required if the degree is issued in Greek, English or French and the institution that has awarded the degree sends a certified copy of the degree directly (by post) to the NARIC. In this case, the person concerned must ask the University to have the degree sent to the NARIC. In cases where, according to the regulations of the institution, an intermediate degree is awarded, this must also be submitted to the NARIC.
- An official transcript with a detailed transcript of records for all the years of study, which must be signed, must bear the stamp of the institution and must indicate the date the degree was awarded. The official course transcript, certified for the authenticity of signatures in accordance with the Hague Convention (APOSTILLE stamp) is submitted. Either the original or a legally certified copy with an official translation is to be submitted, unless it is in Greek, English or French, in which case no translation is required. For countries that have not ratified the Convention or if our country has raised an objection, and only for these countries, the authenticity of the document is provided by the local Greek Consular Posts. No authenticity is required if the official course transcript is issued in Greek, English or French and the Institution sends a certified copy of it directly (by post) to the NARIC. In this case, the person concerned must request the University to send said document to the NARIC.
- A certificate of the place of study which must be requested, on the applicant's responsibility, that it be sent directly (by post) to the ΝARIC by the home institution. If the certificate of place of study is in a language other than Greek, English or French, the applicant must also submit the certificate of place of study, certified for authenticity of signatures in accordance with the Hague Convention (APOSTILLE stamp). This must either be the original certificate or a legally certified photocopy and an official translation. For the countries that have not ratified the Convention or for which our country has raised an objection, and only for these countries, the authenticity of the document is issued by the local Greek Consular Posts. This certificate must state the data of the person concerned, the duration and place of study, as follows:
«Βεβαιώνουμε ότι οι σπουδές τ.. (ονοματεπώνυμο, πατρώνυμο) …… που διήρκεσαν από ……… έως ………… πραγματοποιήθηκαν και ολοκληρώθηκαν στο (Ίδρυμα, Πόλη, Χώρα) και σε κανένα άλλο μέρος»
“His / Her studies, from …… (χρόνος έναρξης) to …… (χρόνος αποφοίτησης), took place and were completed in …..(όνομα πόλης, χώρας) campus of the (Ίδρυμα) and at no other campus”.
“Ses études de …….. (χρόνος έναρξης) à …… (χρόνος αποφοίτησης) se sont déroulées en totalité à ……. en ……. (όνομα πόλης, χώρας ) …… à …(Ίδρυμα )”.
In the case of distance learning, instead of the certificate of the place of study, the institution will send the completed questionnaire directly to the NARIC (http://www.doatap.gr/gr/distant.php in English and in French)
- Diploma Supplement,, if the Institution provides one.
- A study guide of the institution if it is not included in the ΝΑRIC’s list of recognised foreign institutions.
- Scholarship certificate.For students who have been accepted for graduate studies in Greece, a certificate of the I.K.Y. that they are scholarship holders or a certificate from the Department of the University concerned that the student has been accepted to carry out graduate studies.
II. CLARIFICATIONS:
- The submission of supporting documents may be made
- in person at the offices of the NARIC in a sealed envelope by the person concerned or by another authorised person (the authorisation must bear the original signature of the person concerned)
- by registered mail delivered a by courier service
- Please note that the NARIC reserves the right to request information on the applicant's educational background in addition to the information listed above. The applicant has the right to submit any relevant document that he/she considers supportive for the processing of his/her case.
- Any supporting documents submitted will not be returned εκτός από τις διπλωματικές εργασίες, οι οποίες επιστρέφονται ταυτόχρονα με την Πράξη αναγνώρισης.
- All the certificates mentioned above and any document from a foreign institution are not accepted by FAX and E-MAIL (decision Φ5/B3/2427/Νational Gazette 462/28-4-99 volume B).
- All data submitted is confidential.
- The initiation of the recognition procedure is subject to the submission of the required documents.
- The APOSTILLE stamp on the above documents is affixed by the competent authority in the country of issue. For the countries that have not ratified the Hague Convention and only for these countries, authorisation is carried out by the local Greek Consular Posts.
- The official translations of the above documents (unless they are in Greek, English or French) are carried out by the local Greek Consular Posts, by a translator/graduate of the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpretating of the Ionian University or by a lawyer in Greece who certifies that the document in question is a translation of the original.
